“Einstimmende Gedanken zur Architektur” brings together voices from the Faculty of Architecture at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz): architectural notes, observations, and personal reflections. The result is a concise reader intended to help prospective students gain their first orientation. It offers an initial introduction to the intellectual landscape of the programme and is complemented by the Faculty’s Welcome Guide.

The contributions are written by faculty members from different institutes. This diversity is precisely what gives the collection its value: rather than presenting a single, unified canon, it offers a glimpse into the wide range of perspectives and approaches that currently shape the study of architecture at our university. The texts reflect the personal views of their authors and should not be understood as representing the Faculty’s position as a whole.

Architecture is multifaceted. It exists between design and theory, technology and society, everyday life and vision. Accordingly, there are many different ways of approaching and reflecting upon it. This publication therefore does not aim to provide definitive answers or establish fixed doctrines. Instead, it invites readers to engage with individual reflections, embrace contradictions, and develop their own positions.

The invitation extended to all institutes and faculty members to share their “opening thoughts on architecture” resulted in a deliberately open format – an insight into the intellectual breadth of the Faculty. Perhaps this, too, is one of the collection’s greatest strengths: not its completeness, but its openness. It can and should continue to grow, to be expanded, enriched, and reimagined.
