The use of high-performance fiber-reinforced plastics in automotive chassis shows a high potential for the emission reduction and the conservation of fossil fuels through lightweight design. This provides one more solution to reach the climate objectives at the private transport.
In this thesis, the implementation of a material-oriented joining process and the development of a joining technique, compatible for series production, are the main topics of focus. For the fusion bonding of carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, induction joining is a technologically as well as economically effective technique. It meets the requirements of flexibility and production reliability in today’s automotive manufacturing processes. This volume examines and describes the fundamentals of this joining technique based on its physical mechanisms and the relevant material properties.
